I did love the first Avatar movie and had hoped that the second movie would be way more about the life on Pandora. But the human aspect is way too present. The fighting, the extremely unoriginal storyline really bothers me in both that second movie and this 'story in between the two movies.'

The story stays true to the movie; it is, after all, derived from an original script by James Cameron. This was originally meant to be the beginning of the next movie but instead was turned into a graphic novel prequel with high production values. I know Na’vi anatomy can be difficult, but they are copying shots from the movie. I have seen the movie too many times that I recognize all of them! On top of it, it’s very difficult to tell who is who. I have seen fanart comics much better drawn than this. Sorry, I don’t want to disrespect the artists, but they put minimum effort into this. With some publishing metadata such as an ISBN remaining in place, the status of the book remained unknown. Dark Horse's next release in the franchise was Avatar: The Next Shadow on January 6th, 2021, a year after the supposed release date of The High Ground. The three laws of Eywa… I never hear about it. I think it’s an interesting concept, but also maybe a discarded one. I think If it was important, sure James Cameron would have mentioned it if not in the first movie, in the second. I didn’t like Jake being so obsessed with war before the humans returned. That’s not the vibes I got from the movie (ATWOW). I mean, I get he may be concerned, but seriously they made him sound so paranoiac here. I thought it was cool to see the in between of the first and second movie. And I love learning more about the kids. It’s cool to see them become their own people and seeing what they’re like as a family. Avatar: The Way of Water” opens in theaters this December, and Cameron has already shot an untitled third movie that is scheduled for 2024. Plus, Cameron is also hard at work on “Avatar 4” and “Avatar 5.” Volume 1 of “Avatar: The High Ground” is essentially a graphic-novel-length appetizer for the new “Avatar: The Way of Water” film, recapping what Jake Sully and his family have been up to between the events of the first and second film, while also setting the stage for the narrative that we see unfold in TWOW. Strangely, most of what’s included in Volume 1 is more or less recapped in the new film – honestly, there’s not a TON here that you won’t glean from just watching the new movie.
