About this deal

This is then connected to a Technic axle with four bars that sits on the side of the wall. Turning the axle raises and lowers the drawbridge. It’s a neat little play feature that again represents a significant update on castles of old, which used string and were quite fiddly to operate and construct.

Just to put things into perspective, I’ve had about 3-4x the traffic I’ve had this time last year (which was quite high), and I’ve already had to upgrade my hosting bandwidth twice, with another probably coming in the horizon! Do I want a proper 18+ Castle with a ridiculous piece count and crazy build techniques? Absolutely, but this is a nice stepping stone, and hopefully if this sells really, really well will signal to LEGO that Classic Castle fans are still hungry for more.Where a loan relationship is sold for deferred consideration, the amount reflected in the accounts may depend on whether the consideration is ascertainable or unascertainable when the disposal takes place. As with most Creator sets, the main model is definitely the most impressive and most enjoyable to put together, but the other two are still worth putting together. That said, the builds in this set aren’t the most varied – especially compared to something like 31109 Pirate Ship, where the three models felt very different from one another. In 31120 Medieval Castle, all three builds feel more like they all belong within the same larger complex. On the one hand, the set can be converted into a castle with a slightly different layout. In this version there is only one tower, but a slightly larger forge, a windmill and a piece of wall. The whole thing is complemented by a tree and a market stall where knight armor is sold. The third option lets you build a very high tower that is besieged by a blide . In our opinion, this is the weakest of the three buildable options. Here’s a look at the little cottage/building that awkwardly sits just a little offset from the walls. I kinda like it – it’s not ugly, but looks quite natural and organic, like a building that was built on top of the Castle walls in an unplanned manner.A wide range of temperature and pressure ranges is made possible by Orbisphere’s exclusive valve seat sealing, whereby the sensor cathode is mechanically tensioned against a ceramic valve seat to ensure the integrity of the seal. This design enables a vanishingly small residual signal, for improved accuracy. With consideration to everything we have changed, it was important in this modification of 31120 Medieval Castle to maintain the general framework of the original set, so as to still enjoy the very many elements of design that make it work so well.

It’s a substantially large set thanks to its height, but also has a fairly compact footprint, which means that if you’re low on display space, it shouldn’t be too hard to fit it in. With the tree and breakaway wall features in 31120 Medieval Castle, there are at least two great opportunities to use this basic technique to good effect. Final model Once built, the three models can be connected together with simple clips attaching to bars built into the opposing section. The water wheel section attaches to the left of the entrance: How you apply any combination of the above discussed techniques to your castle build is purely down to taste, but we have tried through random and uneven application to sparingly inject some of the desired effects across the walls, without overdoing it. For example, if each wall was made up of just 1×1 plates and every other plate used was a rounded plate, then it would lose the randomness of a chipped effect and actually begin to create a uniform pattern of its own, and ultimately end up being reflective of a different real-world wall construction technique. Obviously this necessitated dismantling the main castle, which I was slightly loath to do, although it was an enjoyable build, so I will have that to look forward to again in the future.

A few more knights wouldn’t go amiss, but as minifigures are generally not the selling point of a Creator set, I understand why they haven’t been included. One technique to add flavour and variety to a build like a castle is to vary the colours, and this is actually something that 31120 Medieval Castle already does very well. Where a LEGO castle from 30 years ago would have been the one, bland light grey all over and only broken up by the occasional printed part, changing out some of the light grey today for dark grey and earthy colours like olive green gives the build a sense of texture and life, without having to move away from an otherwise simple build technique. The room above the entrance houses the drawbridge mechanism; turning an axle on the side of one of the towers raises and lowers it. In its most upright position, it doesn't quite fit completely snug against the entrance, but is still quite effective. The red and white banners give the Castle a very regal look, and in my mind are a nod to Lion Knights. It's a shame, then, that they never realised they could have escaped simply by pushing on the cell’s side wall! It is only attached by two studs, and easily pops out for access inside. This theme continues into the first alternative build, as you’ll see later.The watchtower uses around three-quarters of the parts of the main set (at an eyeball; I didn’t count them) and instead of building out, builds up! With the flagpole on top, it reaches a height of 43cm, and has five stories. Constructing the walls is very similar to those of the main build, but it’s interesting to see the innovative use of the included parts to produce variety, such as the shields providing detailing to the roof.
