Oracular Spectacular is easy to love, Congratulations has Siberian Breaks, which opens all doors at precisely the 6 minute point. There is a complexity to MGMT's music that is rare and welcomed in today's formulaic, cookie cutter music factory offerings of pop culture.

It's very liberating - like that 6:00 minute point in Siberian Breaks (and the video at that point too - open your eyes : ). This is an idea that will split people into those who think it's a muggy and terrible idea and others who think it's a brilliant idea. Yes, there is a code with the album, but the offer for the free download ended on 1/23/09 (it's February 10th 2009, during the writing of this review). Either way, you will get a great sounding record, but those bummed they might not have the MOV version should be very happy. MGMT release their fourth album Little Dark Age - the follow-up to their 2013 self-titled album is released via Columbia.The inner sleeve has glossy artwork (lots of concentric circles on one side, and lyrics printed on the other side).

Originally released in 2004, MGMT's debut became a much needed eclectic pop force, yielding 4 singles including the smash 'Time To Pretend'. After initially recoiling from this album, having commenced my MGMT mania with the expected trio of favorites ("Time to Pretend," "Electric Feel," "Kids"), I slowly became infatuated with and mesmerized by this quirky array of songs. Catchy tracks that combine late 70s/early 80s neo-psychedelic music with modern pop and dance tracks make for a consistent set of tracks, with great meaningful lyrics (something that seems to be lacking elsewhere in today's music), great instrument playing (with solos and extended instrumental sections reminiscent of early Pink Floyd - Of Moons, Birds and Monsters is a stand out track on this front) and a few popular tracks to make it still appeal to the masses.
