Only a few hours before I’d been awake, kept up by a gang of kids hanging out beneath my bedroom window. So, how do we come to be more at ease,as Jon Kabat-Zinn says 'with the full catastrophe' of our lives and all the varied circumstances and twists and turns that surround us - and still know that wherever we are, is exactly where we should be? When we are able to recognize that we are exactly where we need to be, we are able to deepen our appreciation of the moment, recognize the profound beauty of our experience, and open to all there is to learn in the present moment. Indeed, surrendering so willingly to the experience is a deeply nurturing and empowering choice. How often do we think we are not where we are supposed to be, not doing what we are supposed to do, not feeling like we are supposed to feel? Thousands of moments led up to this. Hundreds of decisions and actions. Millions of tiny thoughts and mistakes and blessings have brought you are. And here is good.I particularly love this line of Exactly. I believe that when we entertain the idea that we may actually need to be exactly where we are for our growth and healing, we may be more willing to pay attention to the lessons along the way. We may also slow down, take a deep breath and allow the process to unfold instead of judging and criticizing ourselves and the experience. When we do there is the potential to shine brightly and be filled with gratitude and grace, even in challenging situations. And even more exciting, we have the opportunity to nurture ourselves through the process. Cliche, yes, but at the very same time, if you are pursuing the path that feels most true and right to you, then oftentimes you will just be genuinely happy for both yourself and for others. True happiness is independent of circumstances, and it’s a daily choice that comes from within. If you’re genuinely happy, it means that your life is moving in the direction that fulfills you, and you not only want the best for yourself, but genuine happiness for others as well. I would soon be trapped in a neon-lit, windowless room for the next 10 hours of my working day. In a job I hated.

The message from the last ever episode, was of huge significant in my humble opinion and it was summed up in last conversation between Bran Stark and Jon Snow.... No one talks about Henry Ford filing bankruptcy a bunch of times before making it, but those are the stories we really need to keep us going when we start doubting ourselves. Someone’s story could start with “I’m homeless and living in my car” and turn into “I won a Grammy” or “I went public with my company” – huge and extreme things like that. As social media has evolved, so has the need for us to understand what we’re looking at through everyone’s filters. We have a hard time distinguishing between our perception vs. reality.Do you ever finish a bag of chips or eat a bowl of ice cream before you even realize what you've done? You could call this mindless eating, or eating on autopilot and it can leave you feeling unsatisfied, hungry and wanting more. We can’t anticipate what exactly is going to happen, but we can control how we react to where we are, even when we haven’t met our own expectations or don’t feel as satisfied as our newsfeeds suggest. I love what Winston Churchill said about success – that it is “just going from one failure to another without losing momentum.” When we’re constantly being flooded with other people’s highlight reels, we start to feel like our own accomplishments aren’t enough. They are. I’ve been running a startup for the last two years, and it has been among the most humbling and hardest things I’ve ever done. For me, I know that reminding myself that I am exactly where I need to, I need to be exactly where I am feels liberating and empowering regardless of how much I itch. Releasing my resistance to what I am experiencing and opening to the opportunities to learn and grow feels nurturing and much more compassionate than believing that my body is betraying me. My clarifying question that I have been asking for months, what is the most self-compassionate thing I can do continues to be my guiding light.
