It is VERY syrupy to me; I found it a bit too sweet, although I did like the rich and creamy aspect.

The coffee is stronger and the overall scent is bolder, darker, more masculine, and more mature than the original Intense Cafe. I realized I'm actually not a fan of the coffee note unless if it's subdued and well blended into the perfume, like it is in Intense Cafe. I've spent hours now trying to understand how does this smell like 'coffee' to me, and the closest I can come to describe it is: Latte macchiato with a touch of caramel. As scent dries down I can start to pick up a bit of vanilla and amber and that’s how it plays till the finish.In fact we find it both in the head and in the heart with a combination of rose and sweet vanilla notes Montale style.

Over the time it calms down and gets sweeter and closer to the original, but it stays a little darker. I had sampled intense cafe and it was a lovely scent that I was somewhat mesmerized by but had kept putting off pulling the trigger on it because, although beautiful and can definitely be pulled off as unisex, I found it leaning a little too feminine. I decided to try it again and wear it to work; I sprayed two sprays on each side of my neck and that was it.

I purchased a custom sampler of five fragrances from Montale, and I actually selected this one because so many reviewers have mentioned that it reminds them of Delox by Tiziana Terenzi. I know for myself there’s a big portion of the opening and earlier parts of the dry down that while without hesitation I absolutely love and appreciate, I’d much rather be smelling on a woman than myself.

I was kinda spoiled on Montale instantly, having never experienced that sort of jammy rose coffee opening, ever in my life. I did not expect much as all those perfumes with coffee note usually do not have any coffee in it and leave me dissapointed. This is the smell that I wish Black Opium was, very expensive but one of Montale's best - and I have smelt quite a few!Huge projection, massive longevity, and while I can still sense the original, it is not redundant in the least!
