About this deal

Make sure these fit your head; their harder pads may not seal as well as softer ones. The good news is that their more casual seal means there isn't any thumping if you walk around with them on. That being said the gap is not as huge as it once could have been with very high ohm DT variations due to the Tesla driver technology producing a much more efficient performer even at this high rating. As such, both can play well from portable players but the DT 1770 PRO just scales that bit better, sounding more controlled than the DT770 on stronger amps. Tonality beyerdynamic was founded in 1924 and has been the top maker of the world's best professional headphones since 1937. AKG and Sennheiser weren't even founded until the 1940s. For all I know, this makes beyerdynamic the inventor of pro headphones. With the velour pads, the DT 1770 PRO fitting does position the driver wall slightly further away from your ear than the pleather combination so it is a shade comfier for me. Length and type of cable 3 m / straight cable or 5 m / coiled cable (stretched), each detachable with 3-pin mini XLR cable connector, single-sided

These DT 1770 PRO are best for monitoring and mastering, where they make you work harder to make even better-sounding recordings. The DT 1770 PRO are warmer and have more bass than the LCD-XC. I'll admit that I prefer the sound and ergonomics of these DT1770PRO, for a fraction of the price. The DT 1770 Pro is a well-balanced and slightly warm headphone with tight bass and smooth highs, being applicable for both professional and hifi use. Comes with a second set of leatherette earpads. The leatherette set has more isolation than the standard velour ones. The DT 1770 PRO have natural, tight, deep bass. They're perfect for hearing what you have and for enjoying it - although you'll want it medium to loud to sound their best.Plugged into most modern (low source-impedance) sources, the DT1770PRO appear less sensitive because they are drawing much less power due to their 250Ω versus the 17Ω impedance of the LCD-XC.

Perhaps the biggest difference to note is the fact the DT770 sports non-Tesla technology, using instead the older DT drivers and of course, chiming in at a very portable worthy 32 ohms rather than the DT 1770 PRO’s more considered 250 ohms.

Tonally the A5 Pro has a more reserved bass line than the DT 1770 PRO with far less sub-bass elevation. Tight but polite, distortion-free with very good clarity and above-average detail. It’s got a hint of warmth to it but nothing overcooked. Go right ahead and use a dedicated headphone amplifier if you insist (I love my Benchmark DAC1 HDR), but honestly, they also sound fantastic plugged right into an iPad, iPhone, iPod or with Apple's Lightning to 3.5mm adapter or Apple's USB-C to 3.5mm Adapter. The one area that might frustrate is for those looking to go balanced. These are 3 pin mini-XLR and not 4 pins. That means balanced is not such a simple DIY cable job though you can buy aftermarket. It also means if you have a few Audeze lying around their cables will not fit unless you do some extensive rewiring also. At the same time, the new Tesla technology is a lot more efficient than beyerdynamic older driver tech so heavy juice might not be as mandatory as it used to be. These are better than older headphones. I think the superb bass typical in most planar-magnetic headphones has led makers of dynamic headphones like these to step up their game; the bass from these is unusually deep and flat — just not boosted.

Both headphones sport Tesla dynamic drivers. And although these two models appear to have a similar build, The DT 1770 has a steel headband, while the yokes on the T5 are made from aluminum. As such, the DT 1770 feels heavier than the T5, though the clamping force is about the same. The cable setup is also differenct; the DT 1770 has one cable input on the left ear cup, while the T5 has a split cable with connections on both cups. The DT 1770 also comes with two standard studio style cables, giving you the option between a spiraled design and a longer straight cable. The T5 boasts a “ultra-high-purity OCC7N copper” cable, covered in fabric. It is shorter than the straight cable on the DT 1770, making it naturally more appropriate for casual listening.

Depending on your viewpoint the supplied cables are either perfect for the job or cumbersome at best, there is no in-between here. Both the long and coiled suit studio desk work given its length to move around freely with the cans strapped on your head or the durability to brush up mix desks and take a bit of rough and tumble on mobile turntable setups. The DT1770 PRO let you hear exactly what you have; they don't add anything to make it sound better. This means the music you create with these will sound great everywhere, rather than if you used consumer headphones which are designed to make everything sound good. If anything they err on the side of adding just a little on top to open up the sound. Probably because the DT1770 PRO have such smooth and clean sound at practically unlimited output levels, it's tempting to play them way too loud. They sound awesome played at full concert level all day long
