Incredible . . . If sci-fi is your thing then Phoenix is a must-read, if sci-fi isn’t your thing then Phoenix is a should-read, trust me! Raimy, Readaraptor

The most standout characters in this story may arguably be the "needles" that Bixa wore in her hair. We aren't given much by way of explanation for them, aside from the understanding that they are a form of weapon to her. But their reflective response to her emotions in color and behavior was a consistent and enriching detail worth looking forward to. First of all, thank you so much for leaving me that amazing comment. Phoenix took me seven years to write, but all the hard work feels worthwhile when I hear a response like that. So thank you - you've made my day! This book explores themes such as power, fear and war in a way that would never be too overwhelming or complicated to a younger reader but it has the right level of depth and intrigue for older readers alike.

Oh man. I have read a lot of bad books lately, but at least I was able to get through them. Sadly, I couldn't get through this one. We understand you are very busy, however we would like to ask you some questions about Phoenix (if you have the time to respond). And Marjane turns around, one last time, just one last moment, to see her mother crying her heart out and being helped away . I am definitely planning to write a third book about Varjak one day - and you'll be glad to hear that I think it will be about Varjak as an older cat! I wrote a bit about my idea for it here: Write a joint statement from President Thorntree and King Theobroma to the people of the Human and Axxa worlds stating the war is over and how they should live in future, putting aside their differences.

Hello Sally Bones I am your mother and we could team up and kill Varjak Paw and his friends!” Sor said, but slowly a big hand snatched up Sor and Sally Bones. I have rarely feel compelled to write and thank anyone but in this instance I do. I have been reading Varjak Paw with my 9 year old son, soon to hit the double digits of 10 on 14th of December. The Guardian children's fiction prize longlist 2014 – in pictures". The Guardian. 28 June 2014. Retrieved 2015-01-21. It is so very definitely something; a text that dances with shadow and light and illustrations that pull and tease the words until something strange and alchemical happens to them. I write the stories that I most want to read myself! All writers are really just readers who take one more step, and write the stories they want to read. You can do this too - all writers are readers, and all readers can be writers. I wrote a bit about this in this blog post.

Phoenix is so much about love and about connections and about fitting into the great space of the world(s), that I am a little bereft at finishing it. It is - it is something. I am in Year 3 at St. Andrew’s Primary School in Streatham, so hope it is not too far for you to travel, if you can come. Lots of children at St. Andrew’s would love to meet you and you can stay for lunch. I really hope you can come, my Headteacher Mrs Assid would like to meet you and so would my friends.. Thank you for writing such a brilliant book. For other authors, one of my all-time favourites is Ursula Le Guin, who recently passed away. I think her Earthsea books are the among the greatest children's books of all time. She wrote some incredible books for adults too! She was definitely a big influence on Phoenix, and on me in general - I wrote an article about her inspiration that you can read here:Phoenix is an epic story about a human boy who has the power of a star, and an alien girl who is the most brilliant warrior in the galaxy. Together, they have to find a way to save the galaxy from the war that's destroying it: the war between humans and aliens. I have always loved your books. My all time favourite is Phoenix because every sentence I read intruiges me and makes me want to read on and on forever. Both Varjak Paw books were just as spectacular because when something bad happened,it just made me petrified because of your fantastic use of empathy. Will there be any more Varjak books? If so,what would it be about? Although a second Phoenix book would be awesome,I think just the one is amazing. However,Varjak Paw could have more because at the end,it seems like there should be another;Phoenix might not need that. Also,I heard about a book TYGER. I sounds like it will be your best book yet, once it is completed. If your MILLIONS of fans and me read it,we will probably admire you and your work even more. I bet it definitely will be the best book ever! Thanks again for writing them. They are all super books and I admire all of them and I will continue to love them forever, especially Phoenix. Well done. I couldn't for the life of me imagine the aliens, nor the planets and stars, and this style of illustration definitely didn't help. I wish there was a map to follow and colorful, detailed drawings of places and characters, and events. For me at least, that'd have enriched the experience much more. My name is Cody and I'm an eleven year old. I loved your book phoenix and got really into it but when I found out there was no second book I was in tears, literally. I have some good ideas on how to re-open the story in the second book and it would be amazing if you used one of them.
