About this deal

Dance acts transferring their ability to thrill beyond one off 12”s to the long playing format was a relatively new thing, and a trick not yet mastered by many; only Underworld’s Dubnobasswithmyheadman, Orbital’s Brown Album, The Prodigy’s Music For The Jilted Generation and Fluke’s Techno Rose of Blighty had really pulled it off at the time, though each now enjoys 'classic album' status. Once re-acquainting yourself with the album, those hazy memories attached to it trickle back, while the reasons why you loved it in the first place will smack you in the face as soon as that glorious first note of "Release The Pressure" booms from the speaker. Shrinkwrapped, most with transparent sticker on top stating "Special Edition Triple Vinyl - 3 x 180 gm - Original Album Remastered - 88985388501" plus "We Are Vinyl" sticker stating "Claim your download at wearevinyl. The album will be available in limited edition 3xLP vinyl along with digital and 2xCD editions that will feature the original remastered album. The slow paced dub-hop of the Toni Halliday (Curve)-featuring "Original" remains deep and menacing, and of course there's "Open Up" featuring John Lydon, the track which brought Leftfield their commercial cross over.

Q described "Original" as a "sultry rock / electro fusion" [7] A review in Slant Magazine commented that " Leftism eschews mainstream categorization and manages to reside in the leftfield of almost all the electronic genres it propagates". The influential UK duo of Neil Barnes and Paul Daley previously reissued their seminal debut in 2017 with a remastered triple-vinyl reissue and tour for the LP's 22nd anniversary. In fact, it is best enjoyed in one sitting rather than in the modern playlist fashion with tracks broken up because that way the pressure is built and released, the moods ebb and flow and the music really makes an indelible impact. We tried to push sonic boundaries and used every inch of the speakers available, and then tried to push it a bit more. Of course there are tunes here that do date the record, but they remain relevant for showing a different, subtler side to the band beyond their bang bang, club-based material. All i can really say is if you were around in the late 80s early 90s and loved underground partying and festivals you probably played this and still do. OK so everyone knows this is an undisputed classic and virtually every man and his dog owns a copy of the album.

There are some great tracks here (my personal favourite being Space Shanty) and the album has a suitably cohesive mood, but I challenge anyone to listen to Leftfield's 1994 Essential Mix, one of the greatest DJ sets ever recorded, and then tell me that Leftism doesn't sound decidedly tame by comparison. In 2019, Ben Cardew examined 'Leftism''s impact on post-rave Britain as part of DJ Mag's Solid Gold series.

Leftfield, now led by cofounder Neil Barnes, will celebrate the reissues with a nearly sold-out UK tour, kicking off on 18th May at London's Steel Yard and wrapping up at Belfast's Mandela Hall on 16th June. A limited edition triple vinyl version was also released at the same time, containing "Cut for Life" (7:09) (replacing "Song of Life"), "Half Past Dub" (3:38) and a longer version of "Open Up" (8:44).

Stunning remaster and pressing, I've always thought of Matt Colton as the Porky of today and this pressing proves that. Although 'Song of life' is the stand out track, '21st century poem' is a haunting track that completely moves outside of house territory and showed the level talent of Barnes and Daley. The album contains guest spots from musicians not associated with dance music at the time such as John Lydon from Public Image Ltd. Leftfield's live performances from that era now hold the same legendary status as those of My Bloody Valentine - volume was key, and as such it's no surprise that it's on the more aggressive tracks that Leftism excels. A triple vinyl version (with a gatefold sleeve) will replicate the very original limited vinyl edition of Leftism and comes with a download code of not just the remastered album but also the bonus remixes from the CD (the band have not confirmed who has remixed what track, as yet).

In the edit page, go to the 'Metadata' tab and add your Juno artist, label or release page for listeners to purchase your release / releases. Leftfield are to mark 22 years since the release of their seminal, Mercury Prize-nominated debut album Leftism with a special reissue titled Leftism 22.

Leftism needs replacing just like Admit it, your copy of Leftism needs replacing just like

A tune such as "Afro-Left" still sounds like a year zero for electronic music; fusing African rhythms with trance riffs and a pounding techno beat had probably never been done prior to Leftism, and it still bangs with punk vigour. While many played up the rock-y angle of Underworld, the soundtrack geekery of Orbital and nu-punk of The Prodigy, Leftfield proved to be the most purist of these acts, and Dubnobass. Barnes was a fan of the group Curve, and had Toni Halliday from Curve to come in and work on the song "Original".
