About this deal

I really liked how Hetty seemed to do a full circle, from the circus, to the music hall, to her foster home and in the end, living with Harry when she joins Marina Royal. After that time is over Hetty is invited to live with them, but she declines and works as a mermaid at a freak show, where she befriends Freda, the 'female giant'. Follow Hetty on her hard journey as she struggles to look after 8 year old Diamond, who just longs for a normal childhood. On the final night of the play Hetty accidentally insults Miss Ruby after an altercation with her nephew Sampson and is sacked. Either way I have heard Hetty makes a couple of appearances in a couple of newer books that take place during this similar time period.

The book was average, it wasn't something that will stick with me - unlike the rest of this series which I adore and will stand my favourite series from as a child, which I did absolutely relish when reading them. As she was running back to the girl's wing, Gideon managed to speak for the first time since being taken there. She becomes the new ringmaster and sews new costumes for Mr Tanglefield, the performing monkeys, and Diamond. Emerald Star was definitely my least favourite (But I did really like Lizzie's character which made up for the fact the rest of it was a bit rubbish) I love Sapphire Battersea and I love Little Stars but It's hard to have a favourite as it's really just one massive book.And don't even get me started on the little (and not so little) things there are to love about him: literally a tap dancer; wonderful with younger children (I have to admire the way he never ever patronises dear Diamond, though it would have been silly of him to do so seeing as he's not that much older and very nearly still a child himself); takes snide comments about himself like a champ but will not keep still the second they're directed at his girls; literally knows two trades, a showbiz one and a practical one; last but not least, we stan a short king in this house, if I may use the vernacular.

Sarah is revealed to attend afterlife seances and takes Hetty with her, where the latter is scared after supposedly talking to Saul.Settled in a proper home, with Hetty finally happy, perhaps with Bertie, though I never really favoured him as a love interest for her, and Diamond finally freed from the burden of earning money and being allowed to enjoy the rest of her carefree years as a child. Esmeralda says that Mona's crazy for thinking that Queen Elizabeth is the best beauty, and the model pokes her tongue at Esmerelda's back. One thing I would change is how the fact that Jem's wedding is only about 5 pages long, I was really expecting it to be a key event in the story however, I also like that it wasn't more than 5 pages because it really showed Hetty growing up and becoming more independent without needing Jem. Jem is getting married to Janet and Hetty goes to attend, but the train is delayed and she's late for her act, frosting her relationship with Miss Ruby. Hetty declares that she and Diamond will become music hall artistes after noticing the name "Flirty Bertie" (her old sweetheart Bertie's desired stage name) among the acts for the Cavalcade.
