HEPA Filters have become pretty common in everyday life.They’re used in fans, dehumidifiers, air conditioning (both in buildings and cars) and evenvacuum cleaners. Most people are aware they're the most thorough filters available for domestic appliances, but what isn’t as widely known is why!

If you haven’t cleaned the filter for a while, you’ll immediately notice how dirty it’s become. The more dirt collected on the filter, the less suction your Henry can generate. The label under the handle on Henry, Hetty or Harry (or on the rear of your machine for James, Charles & George) will contain the model number. Henry Hoover filters cannot be washed with water, as the dust and dirt will turn into mud. Start by tapping off loose debris into a bin. Then use a second vacuum cleaner to remove dust from both the inside and outside of the filter. HEPA Filters must satisfy a certain levelof efficiency. The HEPA (H13) filter in Henry Allergy is certified to clean, trap and eliminate particlesdown to 0.3 microns at 99.97% efficiency. With normal filters air passes through a sheet with holes and larger dust particles get trapped in the holes that are big enough to let air through but too small to let large dust particles and things like hair pass through. I measured the raw power of the Henry Allergy HVA160 at a massive 402AW, dropping to only 281AW with the vent open. That’s about the same power as the Stihl SE 33 wet and dry cleaner, and a lot more powerful than the Shark CZ500UKT. Henry Hoover filters can’t be washed with water.
