My family has had 3 children with some form of disabilities born, NOTHING as severe as this, but certainly with some differences. Yes, I would have liked to see more of the struggle of his story and understand what he went through (the bullying, the pain, the thought process), but children don't always understand those aspects of an adult's story.Some will grow determined, strong and successful as Constance did, and others, sadly and unfortunately will be broken.

Themes/Creativity/Uniqueness: If this novel would have been Young Adult or aimed at the Adult audience (which Robert Hoge has an "Adult" version of this novel that you can also check out) there probably could have been more themes implemented. This book has a similar premise as Push or Precious written by Sapphire but it is a biography/memoir so everything that was written is based in real life. In May 2014, she was jailed for three counts of doing an act tending to pervert the course of justice in R v Huhne and Pryce.

If people weren't quick to judge and accepted differences, perhaps this world would be a better place. I think that’s the only reason this story was written: so we could be thankful for our lives in comparison to Claire’s. Hoge was born with a tumor in the center of his face, and under went extensive facial surgery at the age of four to fix his appearance.
