Kill Team 2nd Edition won’t be all about one-off scraps to the death. Its Spec Ops campaign mode lets you field your operatives across persistent narrative battles, earning new skills and equipment along the way.

On the whole there’s more here than we expected, particularly compared to the pamphlets that constituted Killzone releases in the prior iteration of Kill Team. How Does Octarius Fit into the Larger Kill Team 2.0? Before we jump into how to place terrain though, we have to talk about building with a purpose. In Kill Team – especially if you’re setting up tables at competitive events – you want to build layouts for a particular mission. The process here is: When it comes to building the table, it’s not just about layouts – there’s also a question of the terrain itself. While you’ve got several options, the Ork terrain from Kill Team: Octarius is the perfect set to build around – it had a great mix of different features, was designed more with Kill Team in mind, and it just looks great. If you’re looking for a good set of terrain to start with, Octarius is going to give you one of the best experiences, and is great for players trying things out for their first games. Never did I find it a particular annoyance or hindrance to play. It’s just not that big a deal, you guys. Although not necessarily positioned as such up to this point in GW’s marketing materials, the Octarius book is very much written as a full campaign expansion to the base Kill Team rules, with new factions, missions, and requisitions.

Some Other Things to Consider

In a move which has provoked a really staggering number of memes and argument online, Kill Team 2nd Edition is adopting a system of plastic movement gauges with simple shape symbols on them, instead of tape-measures and numbers of inches.

Sure, they’re not quite as interesting or fun as the faction dice you can buy, but it was a nice surprise to find some vaguely themed dice in the box.
