Thanks so much to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this novel, which RELEASES JUNE 19, 2018. This psychological thriller will have you on the edge of your seat right up until the end of the book. You are drawn in from the start and completely hooked. It was so sad that I am so glad I didn't read it at work or at the park or some other public place.

The characters were interesting but I spent most of the second half asking why he/she didn't just do X or Y. I finished it but was quite frustrated by it, and did not find the ending sufficiently satisfying to reward my perseverance. You don’t recognize the strength you possess. But I see it. DOLLLLLLLLLLLLSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.This was the first book I’d read by B.A. Paris and without a doubt it will definitely not be my last – in fact, I’ve already bought all her other books, as I enjoyed this one so much. All things set aside: this book felt like what I needed to hear at this exact moment in my life. It was a good reminder that I'm not alone in this journey, despite what my inner voice might tell me sometimes. Then I was confused and definitely unsure just like Blaine was I felt her emotions I rode the wave with her... But slowly and surely she made me smile and happy again (she would bloody want to) and now this story will definitely stay with me forever and has been added to MY BIG BOOk OF FAVORITES God, can someone be even more pathetic? Like, I get it. Dude’s mother committed suicide as well and he was the one who found her, so I understand his trauma. But this? To tell her—you know what? I’m just going to put up some quotes here because I’m enraged: I stab the air with my finger. “You could’ve done better. You could’ve tried harder. Anything! You could’ve done anything except for killing yourself. How could you even think of doing that?” My own cheeks are wet now as I toss the words at her like daggers. “Phoenix, I can’t be with someone like you.”

I could go on but I will just annoy the fans of this book and this author so I will just chalk it up to not enjoying the writing style. The ending was interesting but I was left thinking “really, this is the answer we get”, it just was not plausible. I’m willing to suspend belief for a while, particularly with thrillers, but this was just not worth the effort in the end. Dark themes but well handled. Phoenix tried tot end her life and when she leaves treatment she moves to her families summer house down the shore in NJ. The family that pretty much abandoned her when she needed them most. Her first night is crazy and also leads to her meeting James, his dad and soon after his brother.Not what I would call great literature but it would keep you occupied on the beach if you had nothing else. What a well weaved story. Then we find that Finn left out some things when reporting his girlfriend missing. I was intrigued by the first few chapters and surprised when the mystery was (partly) explained so soon. Unfortunately the plot-holes were too numerous for me. But, as I’ve said before, there are too many books in this category competing for readers attention, and many of them who did not have the benefit of a big publishing push could easily hold their own against this book. The psychological thriller category is too saturated, in my opinion, and Paris is going to have to really step it up a notch to stay relevant in this genre. This one is okay, but it failed to wow me.
