If you have been following our national parks journey for long then you are probably aware that we have been really impressed with Ruffwear’s Web Master harness (we just wish it came in as many colors as the front range). Both Sasha and Glia have the Web Master in Blue Dusk, but we can’t wait for some pinks or purples. In a perfect world, you wouldn’t have to worry about price or sustainability and could just buy your dog one of every harness. But realistically, for those looking for an everyday full-body harness, the decision in the Ruffwear catalog comes down to the Flagline or the Web Master. Some days it is just too hard to get two dogs looking at the camera at the same time. ???? But I still like how this picture turned out. The pups enjoyed a lovely snowy walk at Wild River State Park today. Glia was super thankful that it was warm enough to leave her boots at home. And I was happy my fingers weren't freezing while I took pictures. #pawsitivelyintrepid #mnstateparks #wildriverstatepark #exploremn #dogfriendship #myfurryfamily Since we have been so impressed with the Web Master, when the Flagline was announced, we couldn’t wait to try the latest full-body harness from Ruffwear.If you walk in high traffic areas, this is a great feature. Here in Minnesota, it is already dark by the time we walk throughout the fall, winter, and early spring. Reflective trim helps us keep safe on our nightly walks. Overall Review We suggest using a soft towel slung under the belly if additional support is required in the meantime. A reusable canvas shopping bag slit down the sides also makes a handy temporary sling / harness for three legged dog. Find instructions for DIY Tripawd sling here. At 277g, this harness? Is lighter than my go to harness for Indie (the perfect fit), which doesn’t have as much containment as this one does. It doesn’t offer these features. For Ruffwear to have achieved this within this weight? Is pretty darn impressive. Looking for a more secure option with the additional belly strap, or a lift-and-assist option with a handle and belly support? The Web Master, Flagline, and Switchbak all meet those needs.

Unfortunately, the Flagline only has three color options just like the Web Master. We hope that someday Ruffwear will give these harnesses as many options as the Front Range has.We loved the color options of the Front Range Harness and were hoping for some fun pinks and purples to be released with the new harness. But color doesn’t affect the functionality and we love the upgrades that have been incorporated into the Ruffwear Flagline Harness. If you are looking for a great harness for your dog to wear while hiking, then you have probably heard about Ruffwear dog gear. Ruffwear harnesses are some of the best harnesses currently on the market for active dogs.

In the image below the Flagline harness is a little loose as we had not re-adjusted the straps after Glia wore it over her sweater.) This harness says it’s handwash only. I mean, this seems like one of the most ludicrous statements to make about a harness, especially a harness that’s made for hiking – but I will be totally honest. I’ve washed it in the machine, and it’s absolutely fine. So… I’m really not sure why it’s apparently not washable? Do I Recommend The Ruffwear Flagline?

Find The Right Size For Your Dog

The Web Master has an adjustment piece on the strap that runs between the dog’s front legs. This is nice as you can adjust the fit/length of the chest strap. However, for Glia, the size small doesn’t quite extend as far as I would like it to. When we researched different harness types for hiking dogs, we found a couple of research studies that concluded that the less surface area a harness covered, the less it altered a dog’s natural gait. (Our review of this research can be found in our post “3 Tips for Choosing the Best Harness for Your Dog’s Next Adventure.”) Take your dog’s girth measurement while standing up for the perfect fit. See this video for measuring help. The pictures below compare the Webmaster to the Flagline again. You can see how the belly strap is not connected to the chest straps of the Webmaster. The new design of the Flagline connects these straps with a solid chest/belly panel. This provides much better support when needing to lift the dog by the padded handle. The front clip is helpful for dogs who like to pull, as it directs the dog’s weight sideways when they lean into a leash that is attached at the front of their chest. This reduces how much they can lean into the harness/leash without changing their center of balance, which reduces how hard they can pull. Number of Color Options

The Ruffwear flagline was tested in L/XL which fits true to size. It was tested mainly on hikes and in rivers and similar to give evidence to what it was designed for. The Ruffwear Flagline harness is a game-changer for three legged dogs. It’s the leanest and lightest harness yet, and the only Ruffwear harness that slips over your dog’s head making it the easiest to put on front-leg amputees – regardless of which leg is missing. The Ruffwear Flagline Harness is a Game-Changer for Helping Tripawd Dogs The Ruffwear Web Master harness and the Ruffwear Flagline harness have a lot in common. They are both full-body harnesses, meaning they are intended to fit to the end or past the dog’s ribcage. This extra length provides more support when lifting/assisting the dog and reduces the chance that a dog will slip out of the harness.The solid chest and belly panel of the Flagline looks much more comfortable for the dog, especially when a dog is being lifted/assisted via the handle on the harness. To be fair, many Web Master users have “solved” this difference by using the brush guard or core cooler to help prevent the straps of the Web Master from digging into the dog when lifted.
