I find quick cook porridge to be very high GI, sends my sugars up 7 mmol/l an hour after eating before coming back down to premeal levels after 2 hours. Some people find this can be a better alternative to mid-morning snacking on chocolate biscuits once you start to feel peckish. If there is an added flavour (like golden syrup) or is packaged in a convenient way ( such as in a sachet), always check the ingredients.
