Designed by Nigel Stroud, the car was powered by a 2.6L R26B four-rotor engine. First competing in 1990 to mixed success, the car was upgraded to "B"-spec in 1991. It was at the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans where the 787B saw its greatest success, where Bertrand Gachot, Volker Weidler and Johnny Herbert, racing for Mazdaspeed, won the race; while the car may not have had the pace of the cars it contended against, the 787Bs were significantly more reliable than its competition. After 1991, rotary engines were banned from competition; Mazda would replace the 787B with the MXR-01 the next year, which saw mixed success. With a massive center air intake, meaty front end, and twin-turbo V6 engine, the sky's the limit for this GT! It just so happens that the newest appearance isn't quite as innovative as you'd think. The Hot Wheels Speed Machines series has been a thing ever since 2010. Mattel wanted a different approach to the world of 1/64th scale model cars, so this line didn't include any fantasy machines. As the name suggests, Speed was the key feature so all of the collectibles released were either sports cars, supercars, or race cars. The 2009 Nissan GT-R depicts a RHD (Right-Hand Drive) version of the Nissan GT-R for the Japanese Domestic Market.The McLaren F1 GTR is a high performance racing version of the standard McLaren F1 used in GT racing. Designed by Gordon Murray and powered by a 6.1L BMW S70/2 V12, the F1 GTR was a successful race car, winning 38 races of the over 120 races it participated in. The car was manufactured in numerous different configurations. 28 chassis of the 106 F1s produced were GTRs; these were raced as late as 2005. While the CM6 design has been updated, some people have complained that these are not Real Riders which means the tires are plastic. At least they look better than the standard, mainline wheels, and the base is made out of metal. And it's good to see that this new series also has a hidden Chase model to look for. And, at the end of the day, you can always choose to skip buying a new set from Mattel, as there's a good chance that something more interesting will pop up in no time. In 2015, Hot Wheels paid tribute to Turismo with two new versions of the current DeLorean cast that replicated the red and yellow #10 paint job. One is gloss red, the other is Spectraflame. For reasons that are still unclear (though a deal with Matchbox has been recently uncovered), DMC decided against allowing Mattel to manufacture the die-cast version of the car. To recoup the costs associated with the design and tooling, Bob convinced Mattel to modify the existing tooling to alter the appearance of the car just enough that it wasn't exactly a DeLorean any more. The version was re-named "Turismo" and sold in 1981. The gallery photos (courtesy Bob Rosas) of the silver car show one of the few surviving prototypes made from the unmodified tooling.
