Do you have that one author where every time you get a new book from them it feels like you’re catching up with an old friend?Her relationship with Meg was delightful and very special which made the story even better and it was wonderful to catch up with characters from past books. A lot of the scenes are set around food, which makes perfect sense since the two main characters are chefs. The FMC’s immediate commitment to a hotel that she had no connection to other than her mother employed there just didn’t ring true. This novel, and indeed the series set in the 60's, has not captured my attention like her other stories have.

Fortunately for Nightingale Woods, Meg arrives in the nick of time and recognises that the kind of charm this hotel offers is worth preserving, and she is not afraid to fight for its future. However, Meg is always up for a challenge, and despite the scary prospect of an impending gala dinner, she gets down to work. I have read a few Katie Fforde novels so was excited to be given the opportunity to read her latest release.This is the third book set in the 1960s loosely based around a group of young middle-class women who attended a cookery class in London. Get yourself comfortable in your favourite reading place with a glass of wine or a cup of hot chocolate and settle down to read this perfect romance. Thank you to Ed Pr and Century for sending me a proof of this amazing book, I love Katie’s books and just am now impatiently waiting for the next one.

What I thoroughly loved about this story was the twist though, especially as it involved my favourite character. I first started writing when my mother gave me a writing kit for Christmas, and once I started I just couldn’t stop.I was drawn into this from the very first chapters and I could tell that Meg was a fantastic character, Justin on the other hand… he needed some manners drilling into him! I have to admit that I was concerned going into this one as it's set in the 1960s and I'm not usually a fan of historical fiction. The chef,Geoff, has sacked most of the staff and had arranged for agency staff which costs more, something the hotel really can’t afford, but the agency let them down, so Geoff quit. Meg longs to be a professional cook, but in 1964 the idea of a female chef running a kitchen is considered ridiculous.

It asks the question, do daughters look out for their mothers as much as their mothers look out for them? One Enchanted Evening is a literary hug that filled me with a comforting warmth and made me crave for more .
