About this deal

The design of this card is simple and light, weighing only around 1200 grams. Even so, it’s still pretty long and wide. Airflow Control: Don't sweat it, Airflow Control guides the air to exactly where it needs to be for maximum cooling. That’s almost 15% higher frequency than the official specifications. This increase in frequency could provide a performance uplift of 5% to 7% in-game. Thermals The RTX 3070 Ti makes for a decent showing here, but we're still looking at an MSRP increase of 20% for a slightly less than 10% increase in performance. Compared to AMD's RX 6000 cards, the 3070 Ti easily beats the RX 6700 XT, but it comes in 6% behind the RX 6800 — which, of course, means it trails the RX 6800 XT as well.

Mystic Light gives you complete control of the RGB lighting for MSI devices and compatible RGB products. Ampere comes with the second-generation of NVIDIA's path-breaking RTX real-time raytracing technology that combines raytraced effects, such as reflections, shadows, lighting, and global-illumination, with conventional raster 3D graphics to increase realism. Ampere combines second-generation RT cores with third-generation Tensor cores that accelerate AI, and faster Ampere CUDA cores. The RTX 3070 Ti exists to plug a hole in the GeForce lineup where the Radeon RX 6800 currently has its elbows out. As such, the RTX 3070 Ti is nearly as much a performant 1440p graphics card, and it gets by just fine at 4K, too. It's not a great deal, however—I fear the days of manufacturers throwing pricing under the bus to screw with the competition are well and truly behind us. Priced more than the RX 6800 at launch and lumped right between the RTX 3070 and RTX 3080, you pay what you might expect for the 3070 Ti's performance and possibly even a little more. Turning to the side, there’s a big opening, revealing the heatsink and a few of the copper pipes. Additionally, there’s Gigabyte branding on the side with colorful lighting.We'll have to see what happens in the coming months. Hopefully, the arrival of two more desktop graphics cards in the form of the RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti will alleviate the shortages a bit. The hashrate limiter can't hurt either, at least if you're only interested in gaming performance, and the drop in mining profitability might help. But we're far from being out of the shortage woods. A larger GPU and thirstier GDDR6X chips beget greater power demands and more heat generation, that's a given, but the unequal increases with this card are perhaps proof of the balancing act that modern GPUs must maintain for peak power efficiency and performance. In the RTX 3070 Ti's case, that's a slightly more shaky tightrope walk than the RTX 30-series cards before it. DLSS often comes to the rescue of the RTX 3070 Ti, though. This feature is as much a boon as ever for GeForce RTX cards in supported games, although AMD will release something akin to the feature in FidelityFX Super Resolution later this month. The lessened impact of memory bandwidth on 1080p gaming performance also sees the RTX 3070 Ti only edge slightly ahead of the RTX 3070. At higher resolutions this performance gap tends to grow in the Ti's favour, but I wouldn't recommend opting for the more expensive card if you are only looking for 1080p performance. There's really very little in it. Ray tracing comes with a hefty hit to performance, but once again Nvidia's RT Cores work wonders for mitigating the impact in most games. The RTX 3070 Ti is equipped with 48 of Nvidia's second generation RT Cores, which are a notable improvement over Turing's 1st Gen lot.

The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is based on the same GA104 silicon as the RTX 3070, but NVIDIA made two major changes. First, they maxed out the GPU, enabling all 6,144 CUDA cores as opposed to 5,888 on the RTX 3070. Second, they installed faster 19 Gbps GDDR6X memory instead of 14 Gbps GDDR6 memory. The memory sub-system alone sees a significant 35% uplift in bandwidth. The memory size is still 8 GB. Naturally, MSI’s GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Suprim X is just as good, especially as it is made using high-quality aluminum and runs incredibly cool. The Suprim X is MSI’s flagship, so, in theory, it should be better than the Gaming X Trio, but at a heftier price. It did turn out to be a great choice for our “Best RTX 3080 Ti Graphics Card” article. Design So there's great pedigree in that memory technology, which is at the bleeding edge of high-bandwidth chips today. Micron doesn't offer it out freely, either. Nvidia is, so far, the only GPU manufacturer to offer it in its products. I'd expect it to stay that way, too; GDDR5X memory remained an Nvidia-exclusive for the duration of its life.

The basic idea behind the RTX 3070 Ti is simple enough. Nvidia takes the GA104 GPU that powers the RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 Ti, only this time it's the full 48 SM variant of the chip, and pairs it with GDDR6X. While Nvidia could have tried doing this last year, both the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 were already struggling to get enough GDDR6X memory, and delaying by nine months allowed Nvidia to build up enough inventory of both the GPU and memory for this launch. Nvidia has also implemented its Ethereum hashrate limiter, basically cutting mining performance in half on crypto coins that use the Ethash / Dagger-Hashimoto algorithm. At the front, you’ll see a couple of slits between the fans that are dedicated to RGB lighting. The metal shroud surrounding the fans is a clean and metallic grey color.
