About this deal

If you've read this morning's Guitar Hero World Tour review, then you already know how much we like the new RedOctane drums - but with the game now on sale across the pond, a few early adopters are reporting problems. There's two additional inputs on the back and I was thinking that a separate cymbal pad for hi hat to the left and an extra pedal would make it feel a lot more "complete" and useable as an actual instrument. Still leaning towards the Logitech kit, though I can't find any examples of anyone using it for MIDI (though I see there is a MIDI port on the back, not sure if it's In or Out). If you've tested and verified that a certain instrument works with a certain music game on a certain platform, and we haven't mentioned it here, let us know in the comments.

There is a thread running alongside this one posted by someone who is trying to figure out hi hat control on one of these kits. While it is more expensive than the Rock Band 1 drum set, you are getting good quality product here. For starters, the Guitar Hero World Tour pedal uses a far denser and resistant coil than that of Rock Band or Rock Band 2.I decided that I wanted all areas of the pad to register hits if possible, or at least light ones on the edges. Personally, i dont think it is worth the money, but depending on how serious about drums, you might wanna take a look. OTOH, if I had a real drum module with more trigger inputs, it would certainly be possible to run cables directly from the pads and bypass the Band Hero controller entirely.

The staff mentioned that there is an easier song selection for children, so I am looking forward to coming back with my kids, who I am sure will enjoy drumming as much as I did. Just looking for advice from anyone who might have experience either just playing these kits with the game, or with regards to how they handle MIDI (wirelessly or wired).If you want a picture-perfect drum set that will never over hit and plays like the real thing, you're going to have to go with the ION Drum Set. Great tutorial to start off and then the songs went through different genres and difficulties, from 'ok, this isn't too bad' to 'how the hell am I supposed to do this! A bit of adjustment on the springy bit and a slightly thinner chunk of foamcore and we're fully rocking now.
