About this deal

Of course, upon first seeing the rule, many online instantly jumped to the maximum numbers. For example, the maximum unit size of Pink Horrors is 20 models. So, upon their destruction, they turn into 40 Blue Horrors, which in turn becomes 40 Brimstone Horror models. Multiply this by 2-4 units of Pink Horrors, and the numbers become astronomical for a skirmish wargame (from both a model point of view as well as a dollar amount to own said models). Cries of “Pay to Win” immediately ensued. But such theoretical depictions rarely bare out on the tabletop in my experience. I found myself thinking about just how likely such a situation would really be. I mean, who really wants to deal with that? A master of disguise and transformation sowing confusion and misdirection across the Mortal Realms and Realm of Chaos alike.

The rest of the HQs made out OK with 5- and 10-point adjustments with the exception of the Winged Daemon Prince of Chaos (+30), who is the big loser here as a result of the inexplicable need to make every Daemon Prince cost the same amount of points despite having different statlines, rules, and powers. The Winged Daemon Prince was already a rare sight in Chaos Daemons and so that’s not likely to change now. With all of that out of the way, let’s dive into the datasheets. Let’s Build Some Lists

It’s time to put this into practice. Let’s build some daemons lists we can start playing with. Slaanesh and Nurgle So all in all, I personally judge the new Pink/Blue Horror rules to be very strong, perhaps even technically broken, but not practically so. Sure, if you really wanted to be That Guy, you could build an army of hundreds of Horrors and all but actually flood the tabletop. But I firmly believe that the army would just be nothing but a tedious chore to play, and probably not be as strong as it looks on paper regardless.

If every unit from your army has the LEGIONES DAEMONICA keyword, then in the Reinforcements step of one of your Movement phases you can instead set up this unit anywhere on the battlefield with one of the following restrictions:Use an unnecessary amount of Warp Charge dice when trying to invoke a psychic power to try and suffer a Perils of the Warp result (hoping to take some casualties), assuming I have the dice to spare in a given turn. In particular, during those rare occasions when I have dice left over, but no suitable targets or things to do with my psychic powers that matter, invoking them anyway hoping for that Perils of the Warp. This tactic becomes all the more insidious once you realize that a result of 8 on the new Tzeentchian Warp Storm table (also found in Wrath of Magnus) reduces all Warp Charge costs to invoke psychic powers by 1, but automatically results in a Perils of the Warp if you fail. This made it a simple matter for me of just sort them out. Still, GW needs to stop pussyfooting around and release Blue and Brimstone Horrors in their own kits ASAP, as I need at least 4 more Blues (for the Lorestealer Host formation) and 10-20 more Brimstones just to meet the demand. Most Pink Horrors live mayfly-short lives, soon reverting to magical energy, but a rare few reach veteran status and may become Exalted. Exalted Pink Horrors have proven unusually powerful, cunning, or mad and survived many battles -- not to mention the raucous, random happenings of their home dimension -- to reach this status. They wear golden trappings and consider themselves first among the lower Daemonic servants of Tzeentch. Quite how much actual respect, or even knowledge, other Daemons of Tzeentch pay to them is unknown, but the ever-higher pitch of their excited squeals means, at the very least, that they are having a good time.

Sub-factions

Greater Daemons went up 20 points almost across the board (the Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage, the one with the big axe, went up 30), pretty much in-line with other units based on their cost. The Keeper of Secrets and Lord of Change came out of this the best, since they were useful before and haven’t gone up by enough to make them bad. Exalted Lords of Change and Keepers of Secrets can also take some great abilities from Engine War and have enough good ones that it might be worth rolling for them at random to get two Heldrake • Stormbird • Thunderhawk • Chaos Storm Eagle • Chaos Fire Raptor • Hell Blade • Hell Talon • Harbinger • Chaos Dreadclaw • Kharybdis Assault Claw • Fire Lord • Doom Wing

We’re like unicorns — rare, cute and on fire. Whaddya mean the burning bull guy didn’t actually set them on fire? Using a wash such as Drakenhof Nightshade for the blue Horrors and Carroburg Crimson for the red Horrors, apply it to the recesses and crevices of the miniatures. This adds depth and shadows to their features. Let the wash dry completely. Changeling - Blue Scribes ( P'tarix - Xirat'p) - Kairos Fateweaver - Daemoniac Conundrum - Niz'roppxl - Queen of Foxes Burning Chariot of Tzeentch - Disc of Tzeentch - Flamer of Tzeentch ( Exalted) - Herald of Tzeentch - Horror of Tzeentch ( Blue - Brimstone - Pink) - Lord of Change ( Exalted) - Screamer of TzeentchIt might work to only get boxes of the Blue/Brims, paint the Blue Horrors varying shades of purple and magnetize Blue & Pink bases as suggested above, but model up the Brims as they come (maybe split a few pairs into 1 Brim per base to get more actual bases of Brims) Just like other Daemons of Tzeentch they are capable of sorcery. Depending on the might of a Horror, this sorcery can range from the common hurling of warp flames or Bolts of Change [3] to more exotic powers, such as the creation of arcane items from their bodies or the manipulation of mortal minds by imitating strange and exotic musical instruments. The most powerful Horrors belong to the ranks of the Daemonic Heralds, some of which ride Burning Chariots of Tzeentch. Units of Pink Horrors are led by an Iridescent Horror - especially furious horrors.
