Moseley’ takes its name from an area in Birmingham, ‘Moseley Shoals’ is a tribute to Muscle Shoals, the legendary soul recording studios in Alabama. The album had a working title of 'Rockfield', named after the studios where it was recorded, but it was released as Saturday - both "Rockfield" and "Saturday" being tracks thereon. It's not the just songwriting or the playing that makes these songs so very good, that's not to say that the songwriting isn't good, it is, and so is the playing from all four musicians, but it's in the arrangements and the production by Bernard Lynch and OCS where their strength lies; they've really thrown in the bells and whistles, although perhaps not real bells and whistles, and that's what makes these songs work; they're collages of carefully arranged small fragments of sound that have been pasted together but not in a throw-in-the-kitchen-sink-and-make-everything-louder-than everything-else way, these songs been crafted with journeyman precision and it's an absolute joy to listen to them in my headphones.

Ocean Colour Scene are still developing their songwriting skills -- the sound is more impressive than the songs throughout Moseley Shoals -- but their second album is an unexpectedly enjoyable record. So while that's three out of three so far you have to question the wisdom, or perhaps the self-belief, of any band that front-loads its second album with three hits. In March 2011, the band released a 15th anniversary special edition of their 1996 hit album Moseley Shoals.Despite the emotionally draining lyrics of next up "One for the Road" at its core it's a fun infectious dance number. They also played at V-festival where Inbetweeners actor James Buckley performed "The Circle" with them in Chelmsford and at The Electric Picnic Festival in Stradbally, Ireland. December saw the limited edition release of a double CD/DVD release of the band's Moseley Shoals gig at O2 Academy Birmingham, which was filmed on 26 February 2011.
