Julian Nutter, defending Hughes, said his client's one previous conviction, for drug dealing in Mallorca in 2018, related to him receiving a suspended sentence for having a small amount of MDMA on the Spanish island. Hughes admitted conspiring to supply cocaine, heroin and cannabis, and to convert criminal property, and possessing cannabis.

I previously read I Am A Hitman, which I thoroughly enjoyed, so was very much looking forward to reading about the drug world now.I breezed through this book - I was able to envision very clearly the areas in Ibiza being discussed while reading, and found the story exciting and suspensive in a way a true story can.

However, this book is a very different take - an anonymous autobiography of the life of someone who seems to have been pulled into this world rather than entered it. There is no interesting hero's arc or journey. No signs of particular insight or knowledge into the inner workings of it all. No truly meaningful adventures or incredible feats. Buddy didn’t have a clue what he was doing. He didn’t know how many grams there were in an ounce, how many ounces in a pound. He didn’t know the difference between profit and loss. Mr Nutter said the dad-of-one had become addicted to cocaine, adding: "In a sense, it was the biter, bit." I found it really interesting as he had quite an unusual upbringing, and historical events had quite a big impact on it. It tells you how his drug dealing operations worked practically but seems to be missing something that stops you from getting a clear picture but I'm not sure what, like maybe the psychology behind it, how people work together, how they're prevented from snitching etc, but maybe it's because of a fear of consequences, or maybe he had quite a sheltered life within the industry compared to other people in it. It still tells you enough to get a general idea and to be interesting.The real-life confession of an actual drug lord - tells the full, uncensored story of what it takes to survive a life of crime.
