About this deal

For me is interesting that some reviewers can smell some of the other notes wrongly mentioned by Fragrantica. MPFlorian: I smelled 4711 a few weeks ago in a perfume discount store. I really liked it, and I’m interested to try some of its flankers. Created in 1792 by Wilhelm Muelhens, 4711 was a blend of citrus oils and herbs, not very different in style from other 18th century citrus mixtures. One of the first successfully marketed was Gian Paolo Feminis’s Eau de Cologne. Feminis moved from Italy to Cologne, Germany, and his Eau de Cologne, born in 1709, gave rise to a new scent family and put Germany on the fragrance map. Feminis’s Eau de Cologne is now sold as Jean Marie Farina Cologne by Roger & Gallet, but I prefer 4711 by a small margin. A few years later my curiosity won out and I painstakingly scratched off all the paint from the cap with a pin. The words “Christian Dior” were revealed underneath the picture of the flower on the top, and “Miss Dior” under the swirling pattern on the side. Annette Reynolds: Unfortunately, Maja stopped making their beautiful cologne some time ago. It’s full name was: Le Bain Natural Eau de Cologne – Concentrated Cologne. It was, by far, my all-time favorite cologne. I still have the bottle, but of course there’s nothing left in it. Now I refill it with other colognes I find that are similar.

Lately I am going through a stage of absolute obsession with the neroli note triggered by the use of several Neroli Nostrum by Lunio decants. This phase has led me to buy a lot of fragrances where this note is the protagonist. And I'm loving them! Writing a review on 4711 - you must remember to open your eval with the compulsory 4711 mantra "it just don't last :-( - its a shame it don't last" Failure to do so renders your review invalid. Yeah, it is, true enough, yet in Germany hardly anyone really treats it that way... at least judging from people I know. irem: I am originally from Turkey where a big bottle of “Lemon Cologne” (limon kolonyasi) is a household item as ubiquitous as dishwashing detergent. There are many local brands but most of them are very similar to 4711 and are simply called “cologne”. There are also lavender and tobacco colognes for example, but “cologne” alone always means lemon cologne.

Skin scent & doesn't last too long - but it's a classic neroli cologne, these aren't meant to. For the price this is easily worth getting a bottle of - the bigger splash flacons are super affordable and amazing value. As this is a 'splash on for a refreshing burst of citrus cleanness' type fragrance, the splash flacons and larger sizes are great as you can apply generously and feel revitalised on a hot day. Aurora: Yes, it is more a ‘for him’ cologne. Bouquet Imperial was much better. Supposedly, Bonaparte used it but there are other claims from various houses so the poor man must have simply drowned in cologne. is a traditional German Eau de Cologne by Mäurer & Wirtz. Because it has been produced in Cologne since at least 1799, it is allowed to use the geographical indication Original Eau de Cologne. The brand has been expanded to various other perfumes and products besides the original Echt Kölnisch Wasser, which has used the same formula for more than 200 years.Yes, what Srimati wrote! Old ladies and there handkerchiefs with this stuff on. That’s why I hate it I guess? Smells like old ladies, but not in a good way in my brain.

This fragrance reminds me of my late European father. He was a man of simple means and a hard working blue collar worker and this was his go to fragrance. We always had a bottle in the bathroom. The smell reminds me of him. Simple but understated.My ex bf in college wore this. His father was French and lived in France, and he'd visit his dad every summer. I mention this because there is history and nostalgia for me in this scent, but also because French can be snobs about perfume (rightfully so in many cases), and it passed the test in the case of the old bf's family... and this is a German-born scent! In my family it was just as much a disinfectant as it was a fragrance. A mosquito bite or a paper cut? Nothing burns so deliciously as a dab of 4711. Oh, all those memories. I had a small box set with 6 miniature bottles that I guarded as my most valuable possession. I remember that sense of panic when the first bottle was empty and only 5 remained. I’d love to hear how they compare when you smell them.Perfectly unisex (the masculine notes of lavender and herbs are balanced perfectly by the more feminine neroli note), 4711 is a classic with mass appeal. It is simple, smells great, and serves its purpose - to refresh, rather than act as a fragrance. I never believed in paying big money for citrus colognes, and 4711 proves that point - it smells effortlessly classy and high-quality. No-fuss excellence, this is German efficiency and engineering at its best. I must buy the soap version next. 4/5. I bought my 100ml splash bottle during a visit to the eponymus flagship store in Cologne while looking for the Farina Cologne Museum - for some reasons I took the former for the latter and was disappointed to see a scentless eau de cologne fountain as the sole attraction! It has a lovely opening smell of lemon and and aromatic notes. Very fresh and very pleasant. It does smell a bit like some modern cleaners, but only because they have probably tried to capture this pleasant smell in their products. I also spray it on my hands and inhale as indicated on the box and it's a just a simple luxurious treat! I feel more positive and energized and inspired.
