Vodafone Gigacube CAT19 is a new 4G LTE WiFi router offered since March 2019. The device is manufactured by Huawei and the model name is B818-260. The B818 is by far the newest and fastest LTE router in the Huawei product range, with LTE Cat19 delivering speeds of up to 1.6 gigabits per second. Vodafone sells the router as a Gigacube CAT19 as the successor to the previous “small” Gigacube Huawei B528 and thus offers customers a very powerful alternative to choose from. My monthly discount on Virgin is coming to an end, and also there's the 12% price rise notification I've received. So I thought I'd have a look at 4G mobile broadband to see if that was a viable option. Not sure it will be a full time option, but if I do have to cancel Virgin then I need to know how well it will tide us over.

For it not to revert to 3G you need to access the VoLTE settings in the router configuration and turn VoLTE on, not all firmwares have this and also not all masts can handle VoLTE. Blu3fire By all means try the antenna, but having been in your shoes somewhat, just use the remaining time to get a good provider. The other thing that appealed was that the b818 offers bridge mode. Switching to bridge mode worked OK with just my laptop connected, but I got very odd behaviour with my (shiny new) Ubiquiti ER-X connected - it kind of worked, but with random hangs and connection issues - but that could be down to me not having set the ER-X up properly. I've given up for the moment to avoid too much family anguish. for band 3 to give 30+mbps is pretty good going, but not unexpected in a rural setting where mast loads are low.

this video of the 5G version the user interface looks identical, the only difference I noticed was the ability to set a time period for the indicator LED to be off. During the speed test I disconnected 2 small LTE antennas - the speed dropped drastically, after 2 seconds it increased, but it was already about 70% of the speed obtained with all 4 antennas. I'm going to create some graphs, and see how things look on there, it's would be nice if the Speedtest CLI allowed you to link the speed test results to an account, but like the Android and Windows Apps I don't this is possible. youtube link for how to change (debrand??) the firmware on the B618 (SIX 18), so I'm guessing the B818 will be similar, but apparently firmwares are very hard to find for the B818. I won't be trying, not at the moment anyway. From the information you've shared, assuming the mast is indeed only B3+20, then the 4GEE EE router you have is perfectly suited. While a different than router may see incremental changes in throughput I doubt it'd be worth the outlay.When the B818 has bridge mode off, the Asus correctly reports a WAN IP provided by the Huawei (192.168.1.101). When I put the B818 into bridge mode and reboot, the ASUS then reports a WAN IP of 10.146.154.229. I thought this was going to work but it’s still a private IP.

I don’t want to spend more time on configuration if there are known issues. The mast and the bands deployed there are the first determing factors you need to know to say if a different device would improve things.
