I’ve enjoyed the previous three books in this series, but some of their minor irritations have final become very annoying in this book. It's proximity by train to both London and Birmingham make it a very desirable place to live indeed, and both the Oxford canal and the river Cherwell run close to it, making it haven for walkers, boaters and wildlife. Belinda moved back to her small village when her brother, Marcus, proved he cannot be responsible for their family estate. Murder in the Village is the 4th in DI Hillary Greene series by Faith Martin and I really enjoyed this one. Murder in the Village most certainly makes a fabulous first book in what promises to be an entertaining series.

The second mystery involves the murder of pub landlord Tipper, a man with no shortage of enemies, but who would want to kill him? Clear diction but considering so many male characters the narrators voice seemed almost the same for the narration plus the female characters and also the male ones. If there had been real chemistry between them it would have livened up the read, but it never gets there with a few musings and some lame jokes being the sum total. After all, the victim was not universally popular in the small village where he lived, and it quickly transpires that he was having an affair. Murder in the Village” is the fourth Hillary Greene mystery by Faith Martin, and after a slow start, it becomes one of those stories you simply can’t put down.When an old high school friend is murdered on the Côte d’Azur while auditioning for the hit TV travel show “Americans See Europe,” Maggie is forced to break away from village life and new motherhood to find the killer. Am not sure about all the negative things said about this seller by other people,,, because my experience was completely different, totally positive. The book moved at a snail’s pace (I felt like I was traveling on a glacier to get to the resolution). Harry Powell, now retired from the author's previous East Rise series, was the only likeable character with his little chats with the villagers.

Love… The story twisted along, with everyone becoming a suspect… A fab read, that I devoured in a day. A man running for the Conservative Party slot for Parliament has been found in his kitchen, his head bashed in. This is billed as a cosy/cozy mystery but it has an edgier side to it that makes it a lot more exciting than many cosies/cozies out there but still avoids graphic descriptions and profanity.

Belinda wasn’t a character I took to at all; and many of the plot details too, seemed a bit strange/unconvincing—for instance, why Belinda would decide to investigate a case simply because she found a body, rather than leave it to the police didn’t make much sense—agreed it was a person she knew, and a matter she was interested in, but even if she had started taking an interest because of her brother’s possible involvement, I’d have been more convinced, but that comes after. While recovering from surgery Hillary decides to investigate Jerome's past and why he transferred to Thames Valley Police. Then there were other little things like how both Belinda and Harry go poking around even in the police’s presence, or Harry’s being at a loss for explanations when a person is hurt because he’s only dealt with dead bodies—I mean he was a police detective not a coroner (also if this last instance was meant to be humorous, it didn’t really come across as that).Is he seeing crime where it doesn't exist to make himself feel more connected to the life he left behind when he retired from the police force? I have voluntarily chosen to review the book, and the gifting in no way determines my review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion.

Harry is first on the scene to help investigate given his past career, but when the bodies begin to pile up, it seems someone is playing a very dangerous game of cat and mouse with the villager’s lives and livelihoods. For two decades, Nancy has thought her mother was dead - until she discovered she was spotted at a party at a country estate five months ago. Farming country, the village has been in existence in one form or another for over a thousand years, providing a natural 'ford' for oxen over the river since medieval times. Despite the title, the murder of a politician at home is not the main plot, though it still has to be investigated by the team and resolved. Perhaps Sybil’s relationship with wealthy Italian count Massimo Falconi has something to do with it. If you love crime reads that are on the cosier, light hearted side, then this is the perfect book to dive into.
